What are the best 2 Seconds pop-up tents?
As you probably know, 2 Seconds tents, or pop-up tents, are a variant of the dome tent. Their main feature is how fast they go up: throw them in the air and they open by themselves, fully pitched in a matter of seconds.
They’re very light and take up little space when you carry them, so they’re perfect for quick getaways with friends or your partner, for trips or festivals, and for anyone without much experience of pitching a tent.
They’re usually for one or two people. You can find bigger ones, but they’re rare because the quality drops. If you need more room, we recommend looking at dome tents.

How do you close or fold a 2 Seconds tent?
Here are a few tips for folding a pop-up tent.
Folding it is easy for one adult, though there’s a knack to it, as the instructions that come with these tents aren’t always clear. You can look for a video on YouTube, but here are our tips to get it done without losing your mind:
- At one point the folding instructions tell you to push down to fold it. You’ll probably end up trying to fold the pole hoop in half, which makes a circle over a metre across that obviously won’t fit in the bag, and you’ll get stuck. Stop there.
- If you look closely at the instructions, the arrows in the pictures seem to tell you to press it against the ground. That’s right. Pushing down, it folds into three circles: one on the ground and two you hold in your hands.
- Then fold the one on the ground onto one of the two you’re holding, and then those two together.
- Then put them in the bag, which you should have left spread out and open on the ground. Stand on the handle so it doesn’t move when you push, and it’ll go in first time.
- Put the pegs away, tie up the guy lines if needed, and close it. Done!
Frequently asked questions
It’s a tent that pitches itself when you take it out of its bag (pre-assembled spring frame), or one with an instant frame of hinged, umbrella-style poles. Pitching usually takes 5–60 seconds.
For car camping, weekend breaks, the beach and anyone who wants ultra-fast pitching. Less suitable for trekking (weight/bulk) or harsh weather.
Pop-up disc: throw it and it’s up; very fast, but bulky when folded (large round shape).
Umbrella style: folding frame with push buttons; a bit slower, but packs better (tube shape/bag).
Fine for summer use if they have a double skin, sealed seams and are well tensioned. In strong wind or heavy rain, a mid-range dome or tunnel usually performs better.
For summer in southern Europe: flysheet 2,000–3,000 mm and groundsheet 3,000–5,000 mm, with taped seams. If the figures aren’t given, assume light use and add a footprint.
They ventilate well if they have mosquito nets, high and low vents and a proper double skin. Condensation drops if you open two doors or the porch for cross-ventilation.
2-person pop-up discs usually weigh 2.5–4.5 kg and fold into a large disc (85–100 cm across). Umbrella-style models weigh about the same but pack into a more manageable bag.
Most are, but you should always use pegs and guy lines for stability; in wind, secure every corner well.
They’re generally 3-season (spring, summer and a mild autumn). For cold, wind or snow, a dedicated 4-season tent is better.
With normal use, several seasons. Avoid forcing the hinges, clean off sand and salt, and dry it before packing so they don’t seize up.
Footprint, quality pegs, reflective guy lines, a windbreak (always cook outside), an LED light and dry bags for your luggage.
Pop-up tents are snug: for two adults, choose a 3-person tent if you want room for rucksacks.
